The only thing that’s worked for me is to make accessing the phone as inconvenient as possible. Eventually my hope is to extinguish the Pavlovian response to pick it up each time it makes a sound or to quell the anxiety that inevitable arises when I have a quiet moment.

I have proven over and over to myself that being present makes me happier. I try to use deliberate metaphors like “drop the rope” or “drop the shovel” to turn my attention back to the present

Couldn't agree more about experiencing happiness. You almost have to make it a conscious practice, but there are all sorts of happy little moments in my day, starting with my first delicious sip of coffee.

And, very good to call out the multitasking myth! it's not really a thing, unless you're a GPU (graphics chip known for being able to do parallel processing). We're not computer chips.

I think the multi tasking thing merits its own space here in the future. It really is a myth that persists - my own kids refuse to accept it’s not true. No you can’t doodle and be in class learning at the same time!

It's really easily debunked, too. I bet you could run side-by-side trials with your kids, timing themselves against their previous time as they try to do 2 tasks at once. Have fun toggling back and forth!
