Word here. I recall the origin of the project being something like a living hyperlink - we'd each be out in the world existing in our unique ways and the word that was first a part of a sentence within a specific work created by a specific author would come to have a life of its own similar to clicking a hyperlink in a we page and jumping to a new page with new content revealed - in that way, the creator of the piece is no longer needed to drive or contain the project, because we're all multitudes in our meanings and abundant in our experiences of being words with layers upon layers of meaning. I do sometimes wonder if Shelley ever did attend a word's funeral as posited in her original plan. But I don't feel at all like this project is abandoned - its just expanded beyond its original frame - rather than some kind of collection of 404 page not found broken links
Hi Anne-Marie, what word are you? I love finding words and please join the FB group if you haven't! I agree we don't need our Author and the story takes on its own life once we get what we were contracted to get (our word, and then the story), but the major issue she didn't finish the admin work required upfront to get us all sorted in the first place. Many of those who were accepted never received their word. Many of those like me who got words tattooed and did the homework required (send back proof of tattoo in photo, etc.) never received the actual story in return. And many words left in the story were never assigned a person. We words would be so happy to rise up and take over these tedious admin things for her to get that stuff sorted, if only we had access. So that's where the ball was dropped, totally understandably since I'm sure the load became too great, but so many of us would be THRILLED to help step in and help. She actually started her career with a hyperlink novel once - https://laurenericksondotcom.wordpress.com/2011/09/20/156/ - so it's a cool idea. I love how she moves through a different format each time - hypertext to children's book, to short story collection, skin, novel, young adult, snow... Next outer space? But I'd like to get all the 2,095 folks who really want to participate in this a chance to do that first. I found an interview of her in 2018 saying she hadn't attended any funerals, though she did write something for one.

Love this push to wrap up this mystery, and your words, spoken as well as written, are smart and worthy. Hope to hear you on air!
I really hope it happens as terrifying as that is, thank you!
I relate with this so much. I’m sure you did well on the podcast. I hope they bring the saga to a conclusion.
Thank you! I kept asking if I sounded nuts because I get sort of disembodied when I do such things but they said it was fine. I really hope it helps!!
Oh this is exciting! I have to think you'd be great on a podcast, and this sounds perfect for one! I'm sure you'll keep us in the loop.
Fingers crossed they get access to The Author (there’s a wizard of oz theme here, we can go home with or without her but…there would be no podcast!)
