Carl Sagan was a professor when I was at Cornell. He had the coolest house built into the side of one of the many gorges in Ithaca themed in an Egyptian Revival style. Yes, that’s a thing. I never took a class from him but some of my friends did and they said he was a genuinely caring professor, not to mention interesting

Oh that’s so cool, I was just in Ithaca and exploring the gorges this summer. Is his house visible/visitable?

Yes. I used to walk past it every day. 900 Stewart Street. I hope you enjoyed some of my favorites like Buttermilk Falls and Robert H Treman. I can’t wait to take Kristi to where I grew up. She fell in love with NY when I took to Lake Placid in September a few years ago and then to the Berkshires a year later. I truly, truly m miss that stunning natural beauty. My guess is that where you live in the Hudson River Valley is pretty epic too.

It is, and I love that any route I take (at least somewhat northward) is so lovely. Did those and so many other falls, all epic for sure. Address noted! My cousins stay in a cabin annually so we'll visit again and get to his house.

This is so extraordinary. Remembering vaguely the launch of that mission. Did NOT remember the human love story. And the glimpses of your childhood and your dad... thank you.
