Ohhhhhhh I loved this meandering yet connected piece. Is it possible that you are actually a type of hoarder, made from words, and instead of hiding things in cupboards and basements, you share them, and we are lucky to read your bounty! The way you went from summer to softening to poem to repair to parents to milestones and aging and back to poem again, was really quite beautiful. I felt the summer heat melting me and it was a delight to drift along the warm tides with you. Also, I have never heard of a repair cafe!!!! We need one here. What a lovely and helpful and community based concept. Anyway, happy birthday to one of the most creative and brilliant people I know.

Thank you so much! Yes I do hoard words - literally on paper, I can never throw away anything on paper, but hopefully more of a word sharer than a keeper in these spaces at least. So glad you liked this. I have fun riffing on these things as if in a tube on a lazy river. Also you should look at the Repair cafe website, you might have one nearby!! They are amazing!

Really enjoyed this Krista. I never heard of repair cafes before and am so intrigued. And the line, "... find the time to issue more kind gestures." this will stay with me and I will adopt it for myself. Happy belated or almost birthday!

Thank you, I bet there must be some of these happening in Japan!

I just did a Q&A with a woman who lives in a zero waste village in rural Japan - they have 45 different sorting bins for garbage and plastics and recycle, reuse like 80% of their waste. A repair cafe would be the perfect addition! She runs an educational program to connect folks interested in sustainable living called https://inowkamikatsu.com/

Love it! Once I started really separating out my recycling and especially composting, I produce almost no regular waste. (Assuming the recycling actually goes somewhere, which is uncertain)... They pick up regular trash here twice a week. I only need it once a month.
