I love that you included dude just casually inhaling chlorine. NBD, just hanging out and inhaling an incredibly toxic gas! Just hanging out and living my best dauguerrotype.

I'm going to spin for a minute on your opening with the body smell/pheromone stuff. There's an irritating commercial out there on cheap TV I often see (and yes, the internet) of a woman selling Lume "whole body" deodorant. For all I know it might be a good product but honestly i would be just fine if I never had to hear her say the word "buttcrack" again. Here's a link to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjztXyq8pNE

Since her success with this I've noticed major deodorant companies adding the whole body stuff to their lines, and there's even one for guys now. And what I think is, mostly they're just trying to make people self conscious of how their whole body smells so they'll buy their product and do their best to Eliminate All The Odors. But yes, the "odors" are much more than just stinky stuff. I've had more than one woman tell me they liked the way I smell (and they weren't talking about cologne) and I also think there's something in my body chemistry that makes cats like me, even though they're only my third favorite pet animal. (Sorry, cat people, I know they're great and i've loved quite a few, and also, the dropoff after the third level is quite steep.) But yeah, they'll cross a room of people and head right to me.

My understanding is that White people are *way more* concerned about this body purity thing than others, and not surprisingly, all the people in these commercials are White. But the pheromone thing is real. I know online dating has a lot of pluses, but I can't imagine even thinking about dating someone until I met them on Planet Earth first, where The Bodies live. (I'm sure some of that is generational too.)

P.S. I have one more related tale (acupuncture treatment) but am withholding for brevity's sake and also am unsure whether it might be offputting to some. I have a lot of trouble seeing that ahead of time, because for me it's just body stuff.

Cats and ladies love your smell, whoop whoop! Are they also cat ladies??

Funny about the Lume. My ex gave that to me (was that a hint, ack!) because we were talking about deodorant of all things (but not the full body aspect, who knew, what an ad!) and I hated it, didn't work for me and I gave to my daughter to hopefully not use on her buttcrack.

Interesting about race too. Where do we get this I wonder. A disconnect from the natural world? A particular bubble we live in, padded with crap on YouTube?

Good for you to sticking to IRL. It's just I wouldn't even know where to begin anymore. Do I have to sit on a bar stool. I don't want to!

Yes, apparently, at least, "some ladies." I did not think to check the cats though as to gender, so who knows?

Yeah I think it's a huge connect from the natural world. I've read that about the race aspect a few times, but I forgot to add The French. Apparently White people in France (of course!) are much more pheromone friendly and natural smell approving. Who takes the most baths? Used to be the Brits, and I'd wager it still is.

Not that stinky isn't really stinky, as we know from our NYC days when a single unwashed could clear a subway car. I am a shower-a-day guy, but I have a friend who just published a NF book about allergies and she says it really would be better for our health if we didn't bathe so often. Still, hard to give up that nice hot daily shower.

Scandal, I'm an every other day girl. And many women cannot wash their hair often - so while generally bathed, their hair may be super gross!

Speaking of French - "Perfume" is a fun read for your synesthesia fun as well.

Ah the elusive factor. What’s kind of fascinating to me is when initial chemistry fades into the background, we almost have to recreate it in our minds lest we get bored or restless with our partner. It’s like a story we tell in our minds and add memories and sure, maybe a whiff of that familiar cologne or conditioner or whatever to reignite the quieter chemical flame. So much really is mental.

yes, the key word is "spark" - so fragile and fleeting! Seems like keeping that flame alive is the real work ongoing
