But wait, the AC is back on. I’ll stay inside. Haha!

This was gorgeous. It also makes me want to see the movies.

P.S. One of my mom's favorite sayings, especially to her middle school classes (she was a brilliant teacher) when they were acting up, was "You're about to make me lose my marble!" (Note: Singular.)

You know, I really like some of Pixar's stuff. I think they produce art, not mere entertainment. I've felt that way since the late 90s, I think, and reading a book about Jobs's influence over there was really interesting.

I want to ask: is this making the world better? There seems to be a legit moral message here, and the thing to do in the past was to be cynical about Disney movies and such, because we look at them through the lens of the 21st century... but is it possible that the world would be much worse off if not for those Disney films? Weird little rabbit hole, but in spite of how cringe and sorta predictable (eye-rolly, really) they are, and even how dated they are too, would the world be better or worse if there was no Disney animation?

How about Barbie, prior to the 2023 film? Same?

I remember being surprised at some of the positive things that women cited from old-school Barbies, but back then I really thought about them as the anti-feminist icon, like the ultimate representation of conformity and subordinance. Was I right?

Barbie is always complicated but the new movie really dove into all that which was great. She’s a real mixed bag, def ehh on the body image front until they make more body diverse dolls but yay for all the creative role play she might inspire. I clocked a lot of hours being the architect/builder of her houses when I was kid - since no one was buying me any pink plastic one, I drafted plans on my dad’s drafting table and made it with blocks.

Neat! I built transformers from paper blocks I made, with little scotch-tape hinges! Broke = creative.

Solidly 51. Not an aesthetically pleasing number like 50 that’s for sure.

Kristi and I just saw the movie last night. I really loved the various islands — like friend island taking over family island. And Ennui. My fave!

I think it's all very brilliant! As much as I want more, it sounds hard to keep it PG as one ages!
