Great peace -- thank you for this I needed it. Heartbreaking and yet hopeful, there must be something about struggle that brings a large souled individuals. I can't help thinking about what literary masterworks Anne Frank might have written in the after war. Given the chance. What's been lost we'll never know. What a voice - that's so young and so articulate and forthcoming and clear eyed and honest and cheerful to the last. When I think of her I tell myself I will never complain again. We're all heading to a demise of one sort or another but why not do it with a little bit of this kind of seeing the glory of the spring inside us. Very touched by this piece thanks.

I’m so glad this moved you. I too am astounded by her voice and wisdom and how much we can learn from her in all times, especially these.

Heartbreaking, gut-wrenching ... no words really, except that you're right -- Minneapolis is showing us the right path.

I saw that story in NPR also… horrible and also heartening to hear the great lengths the community went through to support E. The Anne Frank tragedy, her entire family, except her father, murdered for being Jewish after years of claustrophobic hiding is devastating, and yet the kindness and true bravery of Miep and all those who risked their lives to keep them safe while others would have happily turned them in (and ultimately did) is the balm. This is what the people and communities of Minneapolis are doing - the activists and the helpers, showing humanity in the face of utter cruelty and madness.

Yes I didn’t talk enough about the incredible support system Anne’s folks had to last that long. Who among us would do the same - apparently all of Minneapolis- what a great city.

Powerful stuff that left me silent. I'm now thinking Anne sets such an amazing example of how to live in such a moment. I'm reading another article right now talking about how we need to keep from spiraling into despair (which is what they want, it's what they always want) and actually enjoy our lives while all this is going on. To allow for that. Which means, for one thing, to try to not beat ourselves up with guilt (I think of Anne and her warm room and a bed, which she is very aware of) either. All this stress and pain can make us sick, can break us down, can take us out of any potential action. Which is what they want. We have to enjoy life despite the dark forces, and in spite of them. So that can meet and defeat them. Which we will.

P.S. The people of Minneapolis, God I love them. They're showing us how it's done, and proving that it can be done.

Anne and Minneapolis showing us how it’s done! And you always have encouraging words for me, truly. It is true we need to do more than just endure but still love life - it’s hard!

A brilliant juxtaposition of Anne Frank story to young girl in Minneapolis, “E” !!

Thank you, if only we didn't need to make this leap
