Great post! I think your discussion with your mom is one of the hardest things to do because it's sort of the intersection of relationship and values. I've had a number of run in with MAGA males lately and if you want to talk about "hate" these guys go from zero to homicidal as soon as they feel challenged which doesn't take much. (snowflakes in red hats) And the "whataboutism" is sadly the only conversational or rhetorical tool possess and it's all with the intention of deflection. They don't *want* to answer your questions about grift, or rape charges, Epstein and cancelling SNP food for 42 million families ... OR anything about anything and so just push it back on us. As if that answers your questions. It does NOT answer the question. I was in a diner and a guy was wearing a Trump shirt and I said you know he's called Nazis "fine people" ... the first thing out of his mouth is" What about Nancy Pelosi?" <facepalm> How many times have I heard that LOL. All this name calling like snowflake, libtard, hater, grooming, and brainwashing are all terms that I am starting to turn around as a badge of honor: for example: Yes, I have been brainwashed! in favor of decency! liberal media or my parents or my schooling? who knows where it came from but, yes, I admit I am biased in that direction. I'm currently grooming my daughters, for example, to expect fair treatment in this world. I'm a snowflake when I am melting in front of a firestorm of Nazi level cruelty. And when I'm in a conversation with a Maga nutjob I always preface it with "...as a libtard, myself..." is to let them know that I have neutralized their name calling and it is not a point of shame but a point of honor. Much in the same way that when Hillary referred to the Dixie Deplorables you started to see T shirts that said Proud Dixie Deplorable and Proud Redneck etc. I've been trying my darndest to have simple conversations with these people that does not invoking their "confirmation bias" but simply to plant a small seed. No luck yet I'm not stopping because for goodness sakes look at all the people facing real bombs and countries around the world from people that want to exterminate them and they're showing amazing courage --so I can stand up to the Hateful Christian hypocrite who wears a Charlie Kirk shirt. Finally, is No Kings about hating? Yes, mom, you're right! We all hate a regime that seeks to mainstream bigotry, racism, sexism, and that gleefully enjoys the specter of children being separated from their parents. So yes, I do hate all of this, no apology, and George Soros is not paying me to hate Trump.... I hate him all by myself for free!
