Sheldon sounds great - stick with this guy! Your piece reminds me of something Barack Obama said 10 years ago when Jerry Seinfeld asked what sport politics most closely resembled.

"It's probably most like football, because a lot of players, a lot of specialization, a lot of hitting. ... A lot of attrition. But then every once in a while, you'll see an opening.

You hit the line, you get one yard. You try a play, you get sacked. Now it's like, 3rd and 15. You have to punt a lot.

But every once in a while, you'll see a hole. And then there's open field."

This got me thinking that really the mundane day-to-day showing up politically and for protests, which never seems to solve something in the moment like we want, is critical. That's holding the line and not folding just because we got hit, and letting our opponents rampage through that hole we walked away from. And honestly, I think the American people have done very well. They have not accepted this *at all*, which from what I've read is the key as far as autocracies. They try to barrage and beat the opposition until they give up and "accept" the dictatorship. But if the opposition does not give up, it's really hard for the dictatorship to move forward. Our job is to hold the line.

P.S. God bless Sheldon.

Thank you, I need all the positive reinforcement I can get, even if it's a football metaphor! (Which I actually do understand, thanks Obama! even though I never watch/understand football.) Sheldon is the best! Most positive energy around!

For what it's worth (and if my yakking is okay), here are two more quick thoughts. 2 million protesters on No Kings Day is a really low number. Lots of estimates put it more like 3.5-5 million. 3 million is on the low end. Also, the woman who came up with that 5% figure has come out and said that number is not necessary, it's just that when a population hits that point governments have often fallen. I don't think it's a magic bullet though. These protests need to be regular, and they are. Nothing's going to fix this overnight, but I have confidence we'll win. We have to grind it though, hold the line, then go back to your life. Then hold the line, while they slowly collapse, which they are. We want to be standing when they fall.

Revisited that finally and updated with the range of 4 to 6 million they estimate on the other No Kings march. Cheers to hoping we blast through those numbers on the 18th! I'm going! Not only that but we're trying to get a location set up at the Town Hall I work at
